1. JC Mönchengladbach at the German championship
:
High ambitions, little success for judoka
Judo The judoka of the 1. JC Mönchengladbach disappointed at the German championship. A couple of medals had been calculated. Some top performers were missing.
What started with great ambitions was unsuccessful for the judoka of the 1st JC Mönchengladbach: At the German championships for women and men in Stuttgart, the JC participants were unable to win any medals. “We had expected at least a few medals, so overall the tournament was rather a disappointment for us as a club,” summarizes Judoka Peer Radtke.
Even in the run-up to the competition, the competition was not under a good star: U23 European champion Samira Bouizgarne and medal guarantee Mira Ulrich were canceled due to injury. Laura Hiller, who is considered a great young talent in the weight class of up to 52 kilograms, was also unable to compete due to an injury. Instead of eight judoka, the JC started with only five participants, missing some of the top athletes who had otherwise guaranteed success.
Anja Vishnevskaya (up to 57 kilograms) was eliminated after a bye, Lisa Hiller (up to 57 kilograms) won her first fight in less than a minute, but in the following round she too had to admit defeat. For the men, the tournament was a bit more successful: For the first time, the seniors Daniel Vishnevski (up to 66 kilograms) and Alexander Wegele (up to 60 kilograms), who can already show some medals in the junior division. The German youth champion Daniel Vishnevski fought his way to the quarter-finals with two wins each in the golden score extension, in which he had to admit defeat after a few seconds, however, after being inattentive. In the subsequent consolation round he lost in extra time and finished ninth overall.
After a bye, Alexander Wegele met multiple medalist Fabian Hässner in the second round: Having started the fight as an outsider, he even made it into extra time, in which Hässner then won the round. In the consolation round, Alexander Wegele prevailed again, but in the following fight he just lost to Dominik Röder – who together with Fabian Hässner took third place in the end. Wegele thus caught the Lospech, against his strong opponents he could at least show sovereign fights, even if the competitors held their own in the end.
The German championship was most successful for JC starter Peer Radtke (up to 60 kilograms), who was happy about fifth place in his weight class: Only in the semifinals the judoka was unable to prevail against the defending champion and later German champion Max Heyder lost halfway through the fight time. In the small final for the bronze medal he was also defeated by Dominik Röder.
