Hamburg (dpa / lno) – The master team of the Hamburg judo team has given third place as the minimum goal for the Bundesliga round starting on Saturday. “Of course we would like to defend the title, but teams like Abensberg, Esslingen and Potsdam are also very strong,” said club president Rainer Ganschow before the start against TSV Hertha Walheim and JC 66 Bottrop.

The hosts have to do without the Olympic fifth Dominic Ressel in the opening duels in the eighth-north group. In addition, other top performers will probably be missing, added Ganschow. “So we decided to fly in the Olympic participant Amartuvshin Dashdavaa from Mongolia and Strahinja Buncic from Serbia as reinforcements because we definitely want to win against both teams.”

Due to the shortened season due to the corona pandemic, three teams will meet on three of the four days of the fight instead of the usual two. With two duels each in seven weight classes, that means 28 fights per team on one day. The winners and runners-up from the north and south qualify for the finals.
