The German judoka are going into the next Olympic cycle under a new men’s national coach. Richard Trautmann (52) will be replaced by the Brazilian Pedro Guedes (40), the German Judo Association (DJB) announced on Thursday. Trautmann has been in office since November 2016 and his contract will not be renewed. The cooperation with women’s national coach Claudiu Pusa (54), on the other hand, will be extended until the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024.

“The presidium and the board of directors would like to thank Richard Trautmann very much for his work for the DJB”, said board member Hartmut Paulat.

As an active player, Trautmann won Olympic bronze in Barcelona in 1992 and in Atlanta in 1996. At the previous summer games in Tokyo, the German men won a silver medal through Eduard Trippel. In the mixed competition, the men also contributed to the bronze medal.
