Good debut from Paul Barjon on the PGA Tour, Rahm in the hard

The French Paul Barjon (photo) did not miss his return to the PGA Tour on the occasion of the 1st round of the Fortinet Championship which opens the 2022 season in the NAPA Valley in California.

Author of a solid card of 70, the player trained in New Caledonia occupied Thursday evening the 41st place alongside Phil Mickelson 5 strokes behind the leader Chez Reavie.

Paul Barjon however suffered on his face-offs affecting only 5 of the 14 fairways. More efficient on his attacks on the greens with 10 of the 18 greens in regulation, he especially distinguished himself in putting with a stat of 100% on putts at less than 3 meters!

Passed mid-term 1 strokes under par, Paul Barjon notably managed a good putt of a little over 7 meters at 10 for birdie.

Rahm not at the top

Obviously Jon Rahm has trouble digesting the disillusionment of not having been elected “Player of the Year”. Suffering from an upset stomach on Wednesday, the world number 1 was worn pale for the pro-am.

Thursday in the 1st round of this event that we know as the Safeway Open and won last year by Stewart Cink, the Basque was satisfied with a card of 72 which rejects him beyond the 100th place.

Jon Rahm, who traveled to California to prepare for next week’s Ryder Cup in Wisconsin, will fly away on Sunday evening to join his teammates at Whistling Straits.

Until then he will try to get back in shape. “I had trouble staying focused since I haven’t had a solid meal since Tuesday morning”, entrusted Rahm. “I think I ate too rich a meal on Monday.”
