Gilbert elected to UCI Athlete Commission: “Want to make the sport even better” | cycling

Since 2017, the UCI Athletes’ Committee consists of 20 members. Each discipline, such as road cycling, cyclo-cross, BMX and MTB, is represented by two riders, a man and a woman.

For the period 2021-2025, the interests of the road peloton will be represented by Philippe Gilbert and Ruth Winder.

In the election held last week among the elite riders during the World Cup, the Belgian-American duo clearly received more votes than their challengers.

Gilbert convinced 65.9 percent of the voters, opponent Toms Skujins (Let, Trek-Segafredo) 32.5 percent.

The 39-year-old Gilbert will enter his last professional year at Lotto-Soudal in 2022.

“The committee has an advisory role to the Management Committee of the UCI,” says the main cycling body. Safety issues and ethical topics are covered, among other things.
