Brazil’s soccer legend Pele has been in inpatient treatment at the Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo since last Tuesday. At first it was only said that the 80-year-old would have his annual routine examinations carried out in the hospital.

As only became known on Monday, the doctors have been keeping the three-time world champion under observation for a previously unspecified health problem.

Rumors of weakness were denied

A week ago, Pele himself denied a rumor about a faint attack on Instagram. “Folks, I didn’t faint, I’m in good health. I had my routine check done, which I couldn’t do last year because of the pandemic. Let everyone know that I can’t play Sunday,” joked the FIFA footballer of the century.

In recent years, Pele has had to struggle with hip problems, which hinder him when walking, so that he largely withdrew from public appearances. Because of a urine infection, the Brazilian, who had a kidney removed when a player was playing, spent a few days in a hospital in Paris in April 2019.

Despite Corona, the transfer window in summer 2021 was characterized by numerous costly obligations. The clubs spent hundreds of millions of euros to secure the services of players. While PSG offers astronomical salaries and brought one star after the other, FC Bayern had to bake smaller rolls.
