FIBA 2021 photo competition winners announced

MIES (Switzerland) – The winners of the 5th edition of the FIBA ​​Photo Competition have been selected.

1,110 photos were sent between January and June from a record number of 96 countries. The 8 members of the jury have selected a top 15 that you can find here.

The best photos are from all 5 regions of the world, showing the global impact of basketball.

This year’s theme, ‘Urban Culture and Basketball’ was won by Matias Delacroix with his photo titled ‘Venezuela Daily Life’. It shows a perfect example of the popularity of sport and its power to unite communities.

Matias Delacroix is ​​a freelance photographer, born in Argentina, raised in Chile and currently based in Caracas, Venezuela. He said: “This photo was taken in the San Agustin neighborhood amid the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns and bans. The basketball games are big events here, people come together to enjoy the games. For me, basketball is the essence of the neighborhood, its heart “.

The 100 best photos will be published in a photo book.

First place went to Matias Delacroix from Venezuela for his photograph titled ‘Venezuela Daily Life’

Second place went to Timothy Patrick Ignacio from the Philippines for his photograph titled ‘Start them Young’.

Andi Nursam from Indonesia won third place for his photograph ‘The Generation Basketball’.
