Fernandez and Raducanu will be in Indian Wells

Quebecer Leylah Annie Fernandez is due to take part in the Indian Wells tournament in October, and she could potentially find in her path the young Briton Emma Raducanu, who defeated her in the final of the last United States tennis tournament.

As was the case for Fernandez in 2020, before the tournament was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Raducanu will effectively benefit from a pass to the main draw of the WTA competition.

The 18-year-old Briton, who currently holds 22nd rank in the world, will therefore have the opportunity to “continue her dream season with her very first appearance at Indian Wells,” said the organizers of the tournament scheduled for October 4-17 on Tuesday.

Speaking of Fernandez, who is currently training for Indian Wells, the 19-year-old is ranked 29th in the WTA rankings. She is also continuing a phenomenal season. On September 11, in the final of the United States Open, Raducanu had the advantage over Fernandez in two sets of 6-4 and 6-3.

Earlier in this Grand Slam tournament, the Quebecer had also surprised the whole world by dismissing in turn the seeds Naomi Osaka, Angelique Kerber, Elina Svitolina and Aryna Sabalenka.
