Feli López-Davidovich, final of the Copa del Rey

Feliciano lopez and Alexander Davidovich will compete in the final of the ninety-sixth edition of the Copa del Rey Tennis, which is played in Huelva, after beating, respectively, a Álvaro López San Martín and to italian Andreas Seppi.

López became a finalist after winning 3-6, 6-3 and 10-6 in the tiebreaker of the ‘supertiebreak’ after one hour and 13 minutes of play against López San Martín on court 1 of Recreativo de Huelva.

Davidovich will fight to lift the oldest tournament in Spain after winning more clearly in the second semifinal, 6-2 and 6-3 in one hour and 12 minutes of play.

In the first semifinal, Álvaro López San Martín managed in the sixth game to break Feliciano López’s serve and break the tie. Then, with his service, he confirmed his superiority and with a magnificent parallel to the line he placed the score at 5-2.

In the second set Feliciano took the initiative. With good serves and skillful drops, the man from Toledo countered López’s game, who dominated with the right from the back of the court, although the Catalan was also accurate at the net.

The equality was broken in the eighth game, in which Feliciano broke Lopez’s serve and made it 5-3. Then he did not hesitate with his serve and, with a direct service, he won the second set and equalized the semifinal after 36 minutes of play.

The duel was decided in the ‘supertiebreak’, played at 10 points. Álvaro López went 3-1 after a direct serve and extended the lead to 6-2 with a double fault and a clear failure by Feliciano. But the man from Toledo did not give up and with two good services and a great forehand he moved to 6-5. Then a failure by López San Martín led to a tie at six.

With this inertia Feliciano took another great blow and with a serve and volley he established the 8-6, thus adding six consecutive points. They chained two more with two left for the final 10-6 after nine intense minutes.

Feliciano’s companion will be Alejandro Davidovich, who had a great game against Andreas Seppi.

Davidovich was not long in starring in the first service break. It was in the third game thanks to his powerful and precise shots. Then he defended his serve blank to go 4-1. Seppi reacted in the following game (4-2), but the Italian could not undermine the solid game of the Malaga player despite prolonging the seventh exchange of the match.

In the following Davidovich again broke Seppi’s serve and with a great ball on the baseline he took the first set 6-2 after 32 minutes of play.

In the second set, 3-3, with Seppi at service, it was very even, but on the fast track Davidovich returned to get ahead and with that inertia and a devastating right hand he broke his opponent’s service and made it 5-3.

At the service he certified his victory and went to the final, not without emotion. At 40-0 he had three consecutive unforced errors, which gave way to several equalities with errors and applauded successes distributed. At the key moment, the Malaga player knew how to link two winning rights to 6-3 in 40 minutes to become a finalist.
