De Klup is looking for football players for Special Olympics

ALMELO – The Special Olympics is a multi-day sports event for people with disabilities. It will be held in Twente for the first time in June 2022. Athletes from De Klup Twente participate in the indoor football, badminton and bowling events.

For people with disabilities who also want to participate in the Special Olympics, De Klup Twente will expand its teams where possible. That is why there are free introductory evenings throughout the year.

The Special Olympics is a sports tournament in which thousands of people with disabilities participate. As with the Olympics, there are competitions in many different (25) sports; from horse riding and hockey to tennis and judo. All participants participate at their own level and have a chance to win a medal.
De Klup Twente is preparing for the Special Olympics with three teams: the futsal players, the bowlers and the badminton players. ”Those teams can become bigger”, says Jolanda Overdorp of De Klup Twente, ”although so many badminton players have been added in recent months that this team is already complete. But we are still looking for a lot of futsal players to participate in the Special Olympics and we could also use a few bowlers.”

All people with disabilities can join the teams of De Klup Twente. It does not matter whether they have little or no experience with indoor football or bowling. In order to participate in the Special Olympics, athletes must be active at De Klup Twente for at least six months, so they must become a member this year.

Especially for the expansion of the teams for the Special Olympics, there are free introductory evenings. Interested parties can drop in every first week of the month throughout the year, look around and participate if they want. After that, they can decide whether they want to become a member to participate in the Special Olympics in June next year.

For football, the walk-in evenings are on Thursday 7 October, 4 November and 2 December, between 19:30 and 21:00. The indoor football team trains and plays football in the gym on the Hantermanstraat in Almelo.
