Dak Prescott and Cowboys visit the Chargers

LOS ANGELES – Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert took less than a minute to prepare before Week 2’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs and deliver his first NFL serve.

Nearly a year later, Herbert has become one of the league’s best young quarterbacks, playing another big game in Week 2, now that Los Angeles hosts Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys.

“I’ve spent a lot of time looking back. I think we must always look forward, ”Herbert said of their upcoming anniversary. “This Sunday we will have a great opportunity against the Vaqueros, we are doing everything we can to prepare to give ourselves a chance.”

Herbert and the offense lived up to expectations in Sunday’s 20-16 win over Washington that they would perform better.

He threw for 337 yards, scored a touchdown and had an interception, his 31 completions thrown to eight players. The offensive line, which has a new look, also allowed only eight pressures to the quarterback and two sacks.

Herbert also led an offense that made 14 conversions on the third scoring opportunity and consumed the final 6:43 minutes with a 15-play carry.

Now he will face the Dallas defense that allowed 379 passing yards in a 31-29 loss to Tampa Bay.

The area Herbert will prioritize will be ball safety after the Cowboys forced three changes of possession last week.

Prescott showed no mold in his first game returning from an ankle injury that ended his previous season. He threw for more than 400 yards for the eighth time in his career and tied for his career high with 32 completions.

This quarterback is not looking at individual numbers. The most important thing to him is trying to help Dallas avoid losing its first two games at the start of the season, since 2010.

“You have to help your team and do whatever it takes to win,” he said. “There were a lot of plays in that game where I can say that I could do better or that I could do this or that and it would have helped us win the game.”
