Céline Boutier wins the French Open thanks to a birdie on the 18th hole

French Céline Boutier won the French Open on Saturday, counting for the European circuit, thanks to a birdie on the 18th hole of the third and last round which allowed her to finish 11 strokes under par, with a stroke in advance on Scottish Kylie Henry. This is the 3rd victory on the Ladies European Tour (LET) for the 27-year-old player, 66th in the world and former amateur world number 1, who also won once on the American circuit, in 2019. Best Frenchwoman and member full member of the European team in the Solheim Cup, women’s equivalent of the prestigious Ryder Cup, Boutier has participated in the last two victories against the United States, in 2019 and 2021.

The Clamart player signed a 68 on Saturday, like Thursday, while she took the lead on Friday by returning a card of 66 in the second round. She is the 5th French player to register her name in the French Open, six years after another Céline, Herbin, in 2015 on the Chantaco golf course in the Basque Country.

Two other French women, Anaïs Meyssonnier, in the lead on Thursday evening, and Pauline Roussin-Bouchard, who finished with a bang with a 66 on Saturday, entered the Top 5 on the Golf du Médoc after a tournament perfectly mastered by Boutier. Her birdie on the 18th is all the more significant as she had signed two bogeys on this Par 4 on Thursday and Friday. She succeeds Nelly Korda, world No. 1 and Olympic champion in Tokyo, who won in 2019 in Gironde, and Sweden’s Julia Engström, victorious last year.
