Carmaux. Badminton celebrates its 30th anniversary

The badminton section of Léo Lagrange was created on September 4, 1990 by Michel and Ginette Pech under the badminton club Léo-Lagrange entity, split into two parts, young people / competition on one side and recreation on the other.

The club started with just 10 licensees. Very quickly, the BCLL grew in strength to arrive in 1999, at its peak, that is to say more than 140 licensees, all categories combined. The club today oscillates around 100 licensees.

The members come from all over the Carmelite basin, even from the great Albigensian.

Badminton is the second most popular school sport today. The beginnings were difficult. To be able to play, a gymnasium was needed, made available by the community of the communes, but above all equipment (shuttlecock, poles, nets etc.). These resources were financed by the Pech couple, who put everything forward.

It is good to underline the collaboration with Jean-Pierre Izard, president of the community of the communes of Carmausin and Odule Criado, president of the Léo-Lagrange club at the time. The latter provided invaluable help in the creation and development of badminton in Carmaux.

In 1997, the BCLL obtains 8 titles of champion of Midi-Pyrénées and still participates in all the national FFBA tournaments by trusting many medals.

Each year the club also organizes a national tournament.

Laurent Ursa and Stéphanie Chauveau co-president of the BCLL, the members of the office as well as the many licensees hoped to be able to celebrate the 30 years of the club with dignity but covid obliges it is only partly postponed. Today, the Carmaux club is riding on a good dynamic where respect and friendliness have always been the hallmarks of the club.
