Blog on the federal election 2021: 68 percent for Laschet’s resignation from all offices – politics

Brinkhaus elected Union parliamentary group leader

After a tough power struggle Ralph Brinkhaus stays for Chairman of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group for at least another six months. He was elected by secret ballot until April 30, 2022. Brinkhaus received 164 yes voteswhich corresponds to an approval rate of 85 percent. There were two abstentions.

Brinkhaus actually wanted to be elected for a year, Laschet initially only wanted a solution, until the outcome of possible Jamaica negotiations, so that he could take office himself to consolidate his power. The solution that has now been found offers the possibility, if Armin Laschet can no longer be kept as CDU leader, that a possible successor could see in March whether he wants to be elected as the new parliamentary group leader after six months to hold both offices to unite one person, the Tagesspiegel learned from union circles.
