Mookie Bets broke the parity with a three-run homer with two outs in the fifth inning, and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the San Diego Padres 5-4 on Saturday night.
The Dodgers followed two and a half games behind San Francisco, the leader of the NL West.
Betts drove in four of the five Los Angeles runs. He hit a sacrifice fly that made it 2-0.

Fernando Tatis Jr. hit a two-run homer to 38 homers on Walker Buehler’s first pitch. The club equalized the game 2-2 in the fourth inning.
Buehler (14-3) allowed two runs and six hits in seven innings. The right-hander struck out five and walked a pair.
He got a key walk from Chris Paddock to the Betts batting box, who hit his 20th home run off Craig Stammen’s first pitch.
Paddock (7-7) got the first two outs of the fifth act and allowed a single by Gavin Lux. He walked Buehler on four pitches before being retired.
Kenley Jansen put out all three of his opponents in the ninth for 32 saves.
