Best Ticino sportsman: here are the twenty finalists

Ajla Del Ponte leads the provisional ranking, ahead of Noé Ponti and Filippo Colombo.

In 2020 the Valmaggese sprinter had imposed herself (at the third affirmation). In the hopes category, the 20-year-old swimmer won the Olympic bronze medal in Tokyo.

LUGANO – The second voting period regarding the best Ticino sportsman of 2021 ended on Tuesday 14 September.

In this first phase of the competition, over 12,500 votes were cast online, between the public and the neutral jury, which designated the ten finalists in the elite and young hope categories. These athletes enter the third and final voting period.

Provisional ranking of the elite category as of September 15th: 1. Ajla Del Ponte (athletics); 2. Noè Ponti (swimming); 3. Filippo Colombo (mountain bike); 4. Elena Roos (orienteering race); 5. Susan Bandecchi (tennis); 6. Mario Gavranovic (football); 7. Sasha Caterina (triathlon); 8. Michael Fora (ice hockey); 9. Luca Fazzini (ice hockey); 10. Mattia Bottani (football).

Provisional ranking of the young hope category: 1. Sara Franzi (figure skating); 2. Massimiliano Gusmini (alpine skiing); 3. Emma Piffaretti (athletics); 4. Giulia Alberti (mountain bike); 5. Alessia Pagnamenta (artistic gymnastics); 6. Kim Bächtold (synchronized swimming); 7. Steven Pelliciolli (judo); 8. Nicolas Muci (football); 9. Ian D’Iorio (swimming); 10. Linda Zanetti (mountain bike).

Recall that in 2020 Ajla Del Ponte had imposed itself (at the third statement). In the hopes category, Noé Ponti, an Olympic bronze medalist in Tokyo, had won.
