Benjamin Bonzi wins the Rennes challenger

Nothing stops Benjamin Bonzi. The French lined up for a fifteenth victory in a row this Sunday in the final of the Rennes Open against Mats Moraing (7-6 (3), 7-6 (3)). He thus won his third challenger in a row after Saint-Tropez and Cassis. To rule out the German and his double meter (1.98m), Benjamin Bonzi showed impressive composure. Manhandled early in the match (3-5), he never panicked and dismissed five first set balls with aplomb to break through at 5-4 on a magnificent cross backhand passing.

He will be 61st in the world on Monday

Faced with an opponent who plays his all-out on each strike, Lionel Zimbler’s protege has never lost his rhythm by relying on his excellent service and finding the parade on the relaunch. After groping his way back, he chose to play his opponent and wait for the opening. Despite the fatigue of an intense semi-final the day before, he countered the striker Richard Gasquet by playing very fair and surfing on a concrete confidence. With this sixth title this season, he made another leap in the standings (61st worldwide on Monday) and placed second in France in the Race.
