Barcelona Destroyed, Pique Curses Bartomeu

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —

defender Barcelona Gerard Pique condemn Josep Maria Bartomeu as the worst president of the Blaugrana after destroying the club.

After experiencing the financial crisis due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Barcelona’s squad fell apart due to debt. According to reports Sportsmole, during almost seven years as president of the club, Barcelona was in debt almost 1 billion pounds, equivalent to Rp. 19.643 trillion.

Bartomeu stepped down as club president in 2020 after displeased club members garnered a vote of no confidence. The 58-year-old was also arrested in early 2021 on suspicion of a social media smear campaign against Barcelona players.

One of Bartomeu’s biggest sins is poor financial management that made Barcelona lose a legend like Lionel Messi. After losing Messi, Barcelona were also forced to loan Antoine Griezmann.

For all that impact, Pique called Bartomeu one of the worst presidents Barcelona has ever had.

“I can’t say if he’s the worst. From what I’ve experienced, he certainly is [ada] over there [terburuk],” said Pique quoted from Mark.

Barcelona is currently in a transition period under the leadership of president Joan Laporta and coach Ronald Koeman. According to Pique, the Catalan club will need a long time to return to glory.

“We are all guilty, but it is true that the club has not reached where all Catalans want. Now I am hopeful and excited. The next five or 10 years will be very good for Barcelona,” said Pique.

Pique also supported Laporta who kept Koeman as Barcelona coach this season. In addition, in order to save Barcelona Pique is also willing to accept a pay cut.

“I have given part of the salary. My contract will expire this year, but if I play a number of games, it will be extended under the same conditions as this year,” said Pique.

“Now [gaji] fixed and bonuses have changed,” Pique added.
