Archery: The Robins des Bois de Rodez

If a draft club was born in 1972, year when archery became an Olympic discipline during the Munich Olympics, the Ruthenian club officially came into being in 1978. After a somewhat difficult year due to the crisis health, business seems to be resuming this season and the number of licensees is expected to increase and exceed 60.

License holders who have a room entirely dedicated to their sport, the Jean-Malaterre room, at the Trauc sports complex, to practice indoors in winter, shooting at 18m, but also an outdoor shooting range attached to the room which allows long distance shots between 30 and 70 m on sunny days.

Two competitions per year

As for knowing why one chooses to practice archery, the reasons are multiple as specifies Yannick Lavaur, the president of the Ruthenian club. “For elders like me, you don’t have to look very far. It was often movies like Robin Hood that made us want to shoot. Now many people, young and old, come because they have tried on vacation during summer activities in campsites or elsewhere. There is always a magical side to archery that attracts you. Who has never played in his garden with a bow made with a piece of wood and a string?

A sport of concentration above all, archery also requires a little physical condition. “It is especially the concentration that prevails in our sport because it is necessary to be able to repeat the same gesture with the good posture to chain the good shots.

The licensees of the Ruthenian club have many time slots depending on the age groups to indulge in their sport and to train. “Twice a week we also have an educator with a state certificate who comes to train those who engage in competition.

Competitions which are numerous within the League. “If we wanted, we could participate almost every Sunday. We are looking above all for friendly interclub meetings. “The Ruthenian club organizes two competitions each year, one in December and the other in May and June.
