Another defeat for Kim Clijsters
The now 38-year-old Clijsters took part in an important tournament for the first time in a year and after losing the US Open. In New York, the former world number one and four-time Grand Slam winner had her last victory in an individual nine years ago.
Clijsters said goodbye to top tennis for the first time in 2007. In 2009 she returned to step back from the big stage three years later at the US Open. Last season, too, she was unsuccessful in her sporadic appearances. In three tournaments she was also eliminated in the first round. (jph / belga)
