Andrés Jiménez, the new blood of Cartagena golf | THE UNIVERSAL

Ehe Comfenalco Cup Amateur Golf Tournament left great results for local golfers, especially those from the Club Campestre.

The contest showed that there is talent, and one of them is Andrés Felipe Jiménez, a Cartagena player who enforced the home by crowning himself champion with the best net in the second category of gentlemen.

Jiménez, who has a 9 handicap, finished with a total of 223 strokes, beating Miguel Desmoineaux, also from Club Campestre de Cartagena, and Andrés Bustamante, from Club El Rodeo de Medellín, who were second and third, respectively, with 231 and 232 impacts.

In gross, Jiménez finished in fourth position seven strokes behind the winner.

“The first day I was very uncomfortable on the court, but on the second I had a good round with 78 shots. In the third I finished with 85 ”, said Andrés Felipe, who will travel to Malaga, Spain to continue with his third semester studies in marketing and administration. In addition, in Malaga he is part of the golf team of the University of that city.

“My goal is to become a professional player. But for this I have to improve in many aspects. Be more consistent in my game, ”explained the 18-year-old golfer.

This is Jiménez’s second title in the Club Campestre de Cartagena Amateur Tournament, since in 2019 he obtained the best gross in the third category.

Who is your idol?

– In Colombia it has always been Camilo Villegas, because of the way he plays. Abroad the American Rickie Fowler.

Who taught him to play?

– I started at the age of 8 with Professor Leonardo Contreras. He taught me to play at the Club Campestre children’s golf school.

Jiménez graduated from high school at the Comfenalco Ciudad Escolar school.

His first competitive experience was in the Tours organized by US Kids and at the age of 15 he participated in an international tournament The Future Champions in Los Angeles, California.

Andrés Felipe continues to train hard to make his dreams come true. You know you have the talent, but getting to the top takes discipline and perseverance. He is the new blood of Cartagena golf.

In coach Leonardo Contreras assured that “Andrés Jiménez is a boy who has been through a process of at least 10 years, he is disciplined, judicious both in study and in golf, he gives himself to the maximum, that allowed him to win a scholarship in Spain. His swing has improved a lot, it is really a pride to have a talent like him here at Club Campestre ”.
