The Ugandan national basketball team, currently housed in Rwanda, have rejected reports that they are being held at Park Inn Hotel for non-payment of their bills.

Leaders of the Ugandan team told The New Times they have been welcomed and supported by the Rwandan government, as well as the Ferwaba. They add that they were not detained for non-payment of bills, but instead preferred to spend a few days in Kigali to follow the remaining matches of Afrobasket 2021.

“This is not true. The government of Rwanda and the Basketball Federation have been exceptional in terms of hospitality. We are not leaving yet, we will be here in Kigali until September 6 or 7. We want to go visit the Genocide Memorial tomorrow and watch the rest of the games ”.

As a reminder, the Ugandan basketball team was eliminated last Thursday after being beaten by Cape Verde in the quarterfinals (79-71).
