The French defender Jean-Pierre Adams, who entered a deep coma in 1982 due to an error in the dose of anesthesia while undergoing knee surgery, died this Monday at the age of 73 at the University Hospital of Nîmes (France) reported the French daily L’Equipe.

Adams (Senegal, 1948), nicknamed ‘The Black Rock’, arrived in France in 1958, where twelve years later he began his career as a professional footballer. He was a member of the Olympique de Nîmes (1970-73) and four in the Nice (1973-77) before taking the great leap of his career: the signing by the PSG, where he played 2 seasons (1977-79).

Regarding the French national team, in addition to accumulating 22 caps between 1972 and 1976, the defender will be remembered for his association with Marius Trésor, with whom he formed a central pair known as ‘La Guardia Negra’.

An anesthesia error on March 17, 1982 -in his intervention for a torn ligament in one knee- left him in a vegetative state and cut short the life of the footballer, who went into a deep coma from which he could not get out and almost four decades later, it caused his death.
