Canada got off to a flying start to register its first victory in this final round of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The Canadians scored two goals in the opening 11 minutes to ultimately defeat El Salvador 3-0 on Wednesday.

Atiba Hutchinson skillfully redirected a throw-in in the middle of the race in the sixth minute of play to open the scoring. Only five minutes later, Jonathan David redirected the ball from his head to the back of the net to double his team’s lead.

David was behind his team’s third goal in the second half. He started on a counterattack and handed the ball to Tajon Buchanan who beat the goalkeeper between the legs to make the ropes vibrate.

Samuel Piette entered the game shortly before the 80th minute of play for Canada who was deprived of the services of Alphonso Davies for this meeting, him who suffers from a knee injury.

Canada completes this first segment of the competition with a win and two draws after verdicts of 1-1 this week against Honduras and the United States.
