Women’s basketball team rose in the FIBA rankings | Basketball 123

CARACAS. As with the men’s branch, FIBA updated the women’s national team ranking, in which the senior women’s team climbed six places in the ranking to be ranked 46th in the world, with a total of 131.5 coefficient points.

The governing body of world basketball made this update once the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games ended, where the United States was champion in the women’s category.

Venezuela was located in the 52nd place in the ranking, but its participation in the women’s Americup held in mid-June, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, allowed it to improve its position in the ranking.

During their participation in the Americup the women’s team had a record of 2 wins and 3 losses. The triumphs of the Creoles occurred against Argentina by a score of 20-0 (because the Albicelestes had cases of COVID-19 and had to withdraw from the tournament) and against the Dominican Republic with a final score of 77 to 66.

The defeats were against Brazil, the United States and Puerto Rico. These last two teams were the finalists of the event.

In the same way, with this update of the ranking, the oldest female team is ranked eleventh in the American continent.

In 2015, the Creole quintet had reached – after their participation in the FIBA Americas in Edmonton, where they finished fifth – the 31st place in the FIBA ranking. / FVB press
