Weydandt secures Hannover’s first victory

DThanks to the joker Hendrik Weydandt, Hannover 96 celebrated their first win of the season in the 2nd Bundesliga. The striker scored against 1. FC Heidenheim on Friday evening two minutes before the end to make the decisive 1-0 (0-0) for Lower Saxony. Before that, Jan Zimmermann’s team had only scored one point from three games. For Heidenheim, however, it was the first defeat of the young season in front of 8,600 spectators.

Hannover got off to a better start and initially put a lot of pressure on. But the hosts did not get anything countable. Heidenheim got the game under control until the break and could have taken the lead after about half an hour through Oliver Hüsing.

Kerk provides momentum

After the break, Hannover got stronger again. Sebastian Kerk, who was substituted at the break, provided a lot of momentum. The match winner was Weydandt, who was also new to the game. After a mistake in the Heidenheim defense, the attacker executed with a powerful shot to the celebrated winning goal.

Holstein Kiel has ended its series of defeats in the 2nd Bundesliga and achieved the first point win of the season. The third place in the table last season came to a 2: 2 (1: 1) at Fortuna Düsseldorf on Friday evening and also scored the first goals of the new season. Nevertheless, the North Germans remain in a relegation zone. The Düsseldorf team, still without a win at home, who were the second-best home team in the league last season, missed a leap forward with three winless games from four games.
