Vieques will have a new Judo Center – Presencia Newspaper

VIEQUES – With the aim of promoting sport in Vieques, the mayor of said island municipality, José ‘Junito’ Corcino, announced the start of cleaning and rehabilitation works of the facilities of an old community center which will become the Club Municipal Judo, equipped with everything necessary to develop athletes in this sporting discipline.

“Sport is, together with education, an essential part in the social development of our people. We want a Vieques full of opportunities for all its residents and for this we are constantly identifying initiatives that facilitate that north. This is one of them. Many young people, as well as adults, practice the discipline of judo and need a permanent place to do it, that is why we took on the task of beginning the work of converting the old community center in the Bravos sector of Boston ”, commented the mayor.

The facility will be used by the BIEKE Judo Club and its Sensei, Javier Torres Sobá, among others.

From the early hours of yesterday, Saturday, Corcino, together with a large group of volunteers, began the weeding, cleaning and conditioning of the community center, the first step to develop it in a professional judo center.

“I want to thank all the volunteers who assisted us yesterday in these rehabilitation work at the community center. This administration is committed to our youth in Vieques and the development of sports and recreation as a means to help our people. Vieques has always had the potential and now we are going to reach it, ”added Corcino.
