Video: Terrifying pitch to the head of José Abreu empties the benches

In one of the most chilling scenes of this 2021 Major League Baseball (MLB) season, the Cuban José Abreu received a ball directly to the head during Friday’s game against the Cleveland Indians, a blow that immediately heated up the spirits and ended up causing the benches to be emptied.

With a full house in the eighth inning, reliever James Karinchak made the first pitch on the turn to Abreu. The Cuban did not have time to dodge the ball and ended up getting hit in the helmet.

The pitcher immediately showed signs of concern while the manager Tony La Russa jumped off his bench and asked the Puerto Rican catcher Roberto perez not to intervene on the scene.
