The signing of Rondo complicates the arrival of Isaiah Thomas to the Lakers

When it seemed that Isaiah Thomas and the Lakers could be close to reaching an agreement, things have gone wrong for the player. The point guard had held private training sessions with the Los Angeles franchise and was seriously considered as one of the options to complete the roster, but the arrival of Rajon Rondo to the team has noticeably truncated his options.

So at least Jon Krawczynski, a journalist from The Athletic, which indicates that, despite the fact that everything indicated that both parties were destined to understand each other, the arrival of a new base to the squad has disrupted those plans. While Rondo is not yet officially a Lakers player, he almost certainly will be as soon as he gets off the roster. waivers, in which he has been included after being cut by the Memphis Grizzlies, occupying a position on the roster to which Thomas aspired.

Isaiah played three games in the NBA last season after signing a 10-day contract with the New Orleans Pelicans, with whom he averaged 7.7 points in 16 minutes, which was insufficient to earn a renewal. In general, his last years in the league have been marked by comings and goings, since there have been several teams that have given him opportunities but he has never managed to return to his best version, so that his steps through each franchise have ended up being very brief.

Gone are those 28.9 points per game that he signed with the Celtics in 2017, a performance that he will not have again, but there seems to be hope in the NBA that he can use his scoring talent in a more limited and complementary role. The question is if he is willing to do something like that, because he is not exactly someone who has been characterized by accepting secondary roles without problems. Of course, whether this happens or not, it seems that it will not be in the Lakers, who with Westbrook, Rondo and Nunn have the position of point guard more than cover.
