The Summer Olympics take place from Friday 23 July 2021 to Sunday 8 August. The start of these 2021 Olympics preceded the opening ceremony, the Tokyo 2020 organizing committee having decided that matches in the preliminary rounds of football and softball competitions would be played the day before. Preliminary rowing and archery events have been scheduled for July 23, the very day of the ceremony. Following the postponement of the original Games dates to 2020, the new schedule has undergone several other adjustments.
