We promised a sluggish transfer window because of the global economic crisis? Nay for the English clubs! Chelsea are set to break a new record with Romelu Lukaku, just like Manchester City with Jack Grealish, perhaps waiting to surpass it with Harry Kane. Yet, less than a month ago, Pep Guardiola, the coach of the Citizens, said this: “At the (quoted) prices, we will not buy any attackers. It’s impossible, we can’t afford it ”.
The bar of € 100 million in pounds, and therefore euros, will however be crossed for a player other than Kane, with Grealish. And Guardiola will cross another just as symbolic. Indeed, if the transfer of the English international materializes at the announced price, the Spaniard will happily exceed the billion euros spent on the transfer market since his arrival at Manchester City in 2016, 5 years ago!

According to Transfermarkt’s arrivals report since 2016, the arrival of Grealish for 117 million euros would increase the bill to 1 billion and 49 million euros (215 M € in 2016, 317.5 M € in 2017 , € 78.6 M in 2018, € 159.5 M in 2019, € 161.8 M in 2020 for a total of € 932.4 M currently). Grealish, for his part, would become England’s most expensive player in history as well as Manchester City’s record transfer.
Before being potentially beaten by Harry Kane, since the latter wants to join the Citizens, who could finally crack and make an offer between 130 and 150 M €. Guardiola didn’t believe it a month ago, but with Manchester City nothing is impossible.
