Star of David inducted into Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame

Former NBA commissioner David Stern was posthumously inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame on Saturday night. Stern was instrumental in founding the WNBA in 1997.

“The WNBA was my father’s child,” said son Eric Stern on behalf of the ceremony in Knoxville: “It was something he had to fight for. He had to invest a lot of professional capital and even some personal capital to make it a reality.”

In addition to Stern, the former players Swin Cash, Tamika Catchings, Lauren Jackson and Debbie Brock, as well as Carol Callan, Sue Donohoe and Carol Stiff were included.

Stern, who was commissioner of the NBA between 1984 and 2014, passed away on January 1, 2020 at the age of 77.
