Bad news for ex-national player Michael Ballack: The middle son of the longtime DFB star has died. The situation is still confusing.
A hard stroke of fate for Michael Ballack: Emilio, the middle son of the ex-national player, is dead. Several Portuguese media reports unanimously, including “tvi” and “Correio da Manhã”. Accordingly, the 18-year-old was killed in a quad accident in Troia, south of the metropolis of Lisbon.

According to “Correio da Manhã”, the teenager’s grandmother made the emergency call at 2:07 in the morning. Attempts to resuscitate the assistants who arrived were unsuccessful and Emilio had died at the scene of the accident. Psychologists are on site to help the family. The body has now been brought to the medical institute in Santiago de Cacém for further examination.
The “Daily Mail” reported, citing police circles, that Emilio was on the family property on uneven ground when the quad suddenly rolled backwards and fell on him.
Emilio was the middle son from Ballack’s marriage to Simone, which also resulted in sons Louis (2001) and Jordi (2005). In 2008 the marriage was divorced. The teenager only graduated from school in June 2021. Emilio’s Instagram profile has already been deleted after the tragedy.
Ballack’s long-time club Chelsea have already expressed their condolences on Twitter.
“All of us at Chelsea Football Club are shocked and saddened by the news of Emilio Ballack’s death at the terribly young age of 18. At this difficult time, our thoughts are with Michael and his family.”
