The performance of Snikus and his partner’s horse “King of the dance” in riding in the 1st class freestyle discipline was evaluated with 82.087%, which was the second best result.
The victory with 86.927% was celebrated by American Roxanna Tranela, but the bronze medal was won by Sarah Morganti from Italy with 81.100%.
Eight athletes took part in the freestyle competition.
Snikus earned the right to start in this competition in the competition of 18 athletes, winning the second place in the individual competitions on Friday.
The Latvian team in Tokyo is represented by athletes Aigars Apinis, Diāna Dadzīte, Edgars Bergs and Baiba Rorbach. Rihards Snikus participates in the riding discipline in equestrian sports, Jurijs Semjonovs represents Latvia in swimming, and Ieva Melle has applied for archery.
Latvian athletes are supported by coaches and assistants Aldis Šūpulnieks, Gunta Ozoliņa, Ināra Aperāne, Maija Ukstiņa, Daria Tikhomirova and Agnese Rozīte and Haralds Lučkovskis. The sports doctor is Sandra Rozenštoka and the physiotherapist is Signe Rinkule.
The head of the Latvian delegation is Zane Skujiņa.
This is the eighth summer Paralympic Games after the restoration of Latvia’s independence, in which domestic athletes participate.
In total, this year’s Tokyo Paralympic Games program includes 22 sports – archery, badminton, bocce, canoeing, cycling, paralympic riding, football, golf, table tennis, taekwondo, judo, powerlifting, rowing, shooting, volleyball, swimming, , trolley fencing, trolley rugby, as well as trolley tennis.
The Paralympic Games in Tokyo will take place from August 24 to September 5.
