Sevastova “US Open” loses to Czech Shinyakova in the first round

Sevastova, who ranks 65th in the WTA, gave way to Sinjakova, who ranks 12th in the world, 6-7 (6: 8), 3-6.

Thus, for Latvian tennis players, this tournament is already over.

Already in the first game, serving Sevastova, the opponent had one break ball, but it was not used. In the third game, Sinjakova won even two breakballs in a row, in the second game the Latvian tennis player made a double mistake – 2-1 in favor of the Czech.

The series of lost games continued with four games serving. 2-2 Sevastova achieved with the second break ball, but 3-3 – with the first of two break balls. In the fifth game, which became the longest in the set with 18 games, Sinjakov turned the third break ball into a point.

In the seventh game, Sinjakova also had three breakballs, but Sevastova played them. In the ninth game, however, the Czech took the lead again, turning the second break ball into a point.

Sevastova immediately played with the second break ball, hitting the line, but immediately lost his serve – 5-6.

The next game did not become the last in the set either, giving Sinjakova two break balls in a row and beating the opponent in the second game – 6-6.

In Taipei, Sevastova was in the lead, but Sinjakova scored the last three points in the set – 7-6 (8: 6) in her favor.

Opponents started serving the second set more convincingly. The first break ball was scored only in the sixth game, with the third such opportunity for Sinjakova to reach 4-2 in her favor.

The athletes won the next two games by serving themselves, and Sevastova left the opponent “dry”.

However, in the ninth game, Sinjakova was able to finish the match with her service. She also did it, reaching 6-3 with excellent service and entering the second round.

There she will meet Greek tennis player Maria Sakari (WTA 18th), who beat Martost Kostyuk from Ukraine 6-4, 6-3 (WTA 55th).

Sevastova served more irresistibly (3: 2), but also made more double mistakes (5: 3).

The Czech Republic outperformed almost all key statistics. Only the percentage of sales of break balls was better for a Latvian tennis player. His points turned four out of eight breakballs, and the opponent – five out of 15.

The Czech Republic finished 28 combinations with a winning shot, while Sevastova – only 18. In addition, Sinjakova made less mistakes (11:19). He won the match in 88 games, while Sevastova – 79.

In the three games so far, all of which ended in three sets, the Czechs were twice as good – in the finals of the 2016 Trnava tournament in Slovakia and in 2017 in the quarterfinals of the Bostada tournament in Sweden. Sevastov’s victory was won in the 1/32 final of the 2019 Miami tournament.

Two weeks ago, due to an injury to Sevastov, he was unable to complete the first round of the Cincinnati “WTA 1000” qualifier.

Before the Wimbledon Championships, Sevastova reached the third round. After losing in the first round of the Tokyo Olympics, Sevastova also failed in the first matches of the San Jose and Montreal competitions. The Latvian tennis player’s loss series has currently reached five matches.

Sevastov achieved the best result this season in the tournament in Miami, where he won three victories and reached the quarterfinals.

Sinjakova Cincinnati did not play, but last week was up to the third round of the Cleveland “WTA 250” series tournament, in the quarterfinals in three sets, giving way to the next winning Estonian Anete Kontaveita.

Until the third round, the Czech was also in Montreal, beating Latvia’s first racket Alona Ostapenko in the first round, in the middle of July in the Prague “WTA 250” series tournament and in Wimbledon, but in June she competed until the final of the Wh 250 series in Bad Homburg, losing to Angelika Kerber.

In the Tokyo Olympics, Sinjakova did not participate in the singles, but won gold medals in the doubles with Barbora Krejčīkovs.

The Latvian tennis player has 21 wins and 19 losses this season, the balance of the Czech athlete is 22-15, lately the Czech has played better.

Sevastova “US Open” has played ten times so far. This is her most successful “Grand Slam” tournament, reaching the quarterfinals in 2016 and 2017, and entering the semifinals in 2018. Last year, Sevastova was up to the second round.

Sinjakova also had the most successful US Open Championship tournament in 2018, reaching the third round. Last year she lost the first round.

Sevastova has won four and Sinjakova so far in two WTA singles tournaments.

It has already been reported that Latvia’s first racket Alona Ostapenko (WTA 30th) has withdrawn from the tournament.

The first Latvian racket Ernests Gulbis participated in the men’s competition in the qualification tournament, who overcame two of the three qualification rounds and did not enter the main competition.

In the 2020 tournament, Dominiks Tim from Austria won the men’s singles, and Naomi Osaka from Japan won the women’s singles.

The last Grand Slam tournament of the season, in which the games will take place on the hard surface, will end on September 12.
