Sevastov does not use a set ball in the first set and loses to Sinjakova in New York

In the 1st set of Anastasia Sevastova until the breakup, she had several plays – she had a breakage deficit four times! Katerzina Sinjakova always lost in the next serving game after the break and did not serve the set twice. In Sevastov’s Taipei, there was a chance to win a set in which both played inexpressively, but this opportunity was not used.

When the Czech sent the ball at 5: 5 with an impact from the awkward side, Sevastova got a set ball with her own serve. She lost by mistake in two games in a row in a row – a right shot and a ball on the left from the left. Sinjakova realized her set ball by reserving a good enough first serve, which Sevastova hit in the net.

After the eight breaks in Set 1, there was only one in Set 2 that took place in the sixth game. Sinjakova played well in defense and earned two breakballs in counter-attacks (2: 3, 15:40). Sevastova repelled both with “forehand” attacks, but the ball was not “equal” after the Czech shot to the right. Sevastov’s game failed to defend the second serve in the third break ball, after Sinjakova’s strong diagonal shot sent the ball into the net.

In the next game, Sinjakova won the serve game after the break with the fifth attempt in the match – 2: 5. Sevastova with a “dry” serve game, in which the opponent obviously saved, slightly extended the match a bit, but in the next game the fight was over. Sinjakova comfortably served the match at 5: 3, losing only one game in the last game. Sevastova had no breakballs in the 2nd set.

Sevastova competed with Sinjakov for the fourth time (1-3). She has also lost twice to the Czech on the clay surface – in 2016 in the ITF W100 final in Trnava (6: 7 (4), 7: 5, 0: 6) and in 2017 in the Bostad WTA 250 quarterfinals (3: 6, 7: 5, 5 : 7), but the only victory was in 2019 in Miami on the hard surface with 6: 2, 0: 6, 6: 4.

Sevastova’s loss to New York at noon on Tuesday is the sixth in a row, including one qualifying match (Cincinnati). She has had a modest Grand Slam tournament season this year, losing three of her four major tournaments in the 1st round – with the exception of Wimbledon, where she achieved her best result in the 3rd round.

Sevastova played for the ninth time in the US Open (18-9 balance), where from 2016 to 2018 she had an impressive stage with two quarterfinals and one semi-final. Since then, the result has been worse and worse – a loss in the 3rd round in 2019, a failure in the 2nd round in 2020, but this time a loss in the first round. This was only the second time in her US Open career (2011, 2021).

Sevastova was unable to defend the 130 rating points earned two years ago by meeting until the 3rd round. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, she remained in the best result of the tournaments of the last two years. Anastasia will still have a doubles tournament in New York with the Slovenian Polon Duke.
