Raiders strengthen their defensive line with Gerald McCoy

Absent the entire 2020 season due to a quadriceps tear, Gerald McCoy is back. On Wednesday, he signed with the Raiders following a visibly conclusive visit. The franchise formalized the transaction.

Long considered one of the best defensive tackles in the league, six times selected for the Pro Bowl between 2012 and 2017, McCoy is now a 33-year-old looking for a raise. In 2019, he started all Panthers games, with 5 sacks to boot.

According to NFL Media, he was in good shape when he visited Vegas. If he can regain a solid level, he could be of great help in the middle of a line which currently lines up Johnathan Hankins and Quinton Jefferson. It’s more promising on the ends of the line, with Yannick Ngakoue, Maxx Crosby, Clelin Ferrell and Carl Nassib.

The Raiders only managed 21 sacks last year. Only three teams did worse.
