One slot for Pertamina Mandalika SAG team rider was vacant after Thomas Luthi decided to retire. The team had considered giving an opportunity to riders from Indonesia, but this was hampered by regulations. Dimas Ekky Pratama will continue to race in the FIM CEV Moto2 next year.
“In the last few weeks, we have tried and encouraged Indonesian racers to join Pertamina Mandalika in Moto2 2022. Like Dimas Ekky Pratama who is also a member of the Mandalika Racing Academy,” said Rapsel Ali to reporters on Sunday (29/08/2021).
“But the Grand Prix Commission, one of which is filled by Dorna, has strict requirements for a racer to be able to take part in the Moto3, Moto2 to MotoGP classes. In essence, they judge that Indonesian racers do not meet the requirements to join Moto2,” he continued.
Therefore, Pertamina Mandalika SAG decided to give an opportunity to Indonesian Racing rider, Gabriel Rodrigo.
In Moto3 this season, Rodrigo is temporarily in 11th position with 59 points. Rodrigo is contracted for 1 year.
Another Pertamina Mandalika SAG team rider slot was given to Bo Bendsneyder. Mas Bo’s appearance is considered quite satisfactory so far with a record of 40 points from 12 races.
Director of Pertamina Mandalika SAG, Kemalsyah Nasution, noted that coaching in Indonesia must be improved to bring riders to compete in Moto2 or MotoGP.
“As an illustration, racers who are on the podium in FIM CEV Moto2 such as Taiga Hada or Adam Norrodin when appearing in Moto2 this season are still in the back position. So indeed the Moto2 competition is very tight and Dorna has high requirements for drivers who want to appear here,” said Kemalsyah Nasution. .
“So we will come back again, the coaching of Indonesian drivers must be improved again,” he added.
