The Russian couple Anastasía Pavlyuchenkova and Andréi Rublev won gold this Sunday in the mixed doubles category tennis tournament at the Tokyo Games, after defeating their compatriots in the final Elena Vesnina y Aslán Karatsev.

The tennis players, who participated in this edition on behalf of the Russian Olympic Committee, took victory after a very close contest, by two sets to one (6-3, 7-6 (5) and 13-11) in one hour and 53 minutes of play.

The match took place on the central court of the Ariake Tennis Park, in the Japanese capital, after the men’s individual final, in which The German Alexander Zverev won the gold against the Russian Karen Khachanov, and the corresponding delivery of medals, which was closed by the Spanish Pablo Carreño.

The bronze in mixed doubles went to Australians Ashleigh Barty and John Peers. The pair should have played their match for third and fourth place the day before against Serbs Nina Stojanovic and Novak Djokovic, but they agreed to the medal without playing after the Belgrade player withdrew after losing to Carreño.
