No quarterfinals for Van Montagu after nail biter: “Satisfied with my first Games” | Paralympic Games

Archer Piotr Van Montagu has failed to reach the quarterfinals at the Paralympic Games. Our compatriot narrowly lost 142-143 against the Iranian topper Ramezan Biabani.

Piotr Van Montagu had already had a great tournament and faced a strong opponent in the 1/8th finals with the Iranian Ramezan Biabani.

Van Montagu, who shoots without arms, started his match nervously. Nevertheless, our compatriot once again fought his way into the game with a few hits.

The Belgian archer raised his level and was anything but blown away by Biabani. More so, because until the very end Van Montagu managed to keep up with his opponent.

But in the end, the Belgian must narrowly recognize his superior in the Iranian. With 142 against 143, Van Montagu stranded in the 1/8th finals in his first Paralympic Games.

Van Montagu: “Very satisfied with the first Paralympic Games”

Despite the elimination, Van Montagu was still happy with his performance. “All in all I’m happy with my game.”

“At the first arrow I trembled to death from the stress, that had an impact on my score. Then I started shooting well and I was able to catch up.”

“I was close. I am proud and have outdone myself. I lose by a point here, but I am very happy with my first Paralympic Games. Now I will continue to work hard towards the world championships that will take place in Dubai in 2022.”
