After having played his first Olympic campaign, Nico Mannion will extend his Italian parenthesis as he will play next season with the reigning champion of the first transalpine division, Virtus Bologna of Sergio Scariolo!
The club formalized the news on its website, referring to the playmaker as “One of the most important targets” of its offseason. This is a big change of course for Nico Mannion after an honorable rookie season at the Warriors and when the latter had activated their “qualifying offer”, making the Italian a protected free agent.
The objective will be to gain playing time and experience, especially alongside the tandem Milos Teodosic – Marco Belinelli. ESPN added that Mannion actually hoped to progress faster in Italy but also kept in mind the idea of trying his luck again in the NBA, at the end of next season or the next.
Note that the Warriors, who have done well to recruit Chris Chiozza, keep his rights and that his “qualifying offer” of around 1.5 million dollars will always make him a protected free agent if he came back to the NBA.
