Netflix finds more and more pleasure in Mallorca. The streaming platform is currently shooting two productions on the island: the German series “Cleo” and the US feature film „Hustle“. Netflix already had part of the series in 2018 „Turn Up Charlie“ and the following year the series set in Ibiza „White Lines“ shot in Mallorca.
The twist for “Cleo” starts on Thursday (August 5th) in different places on the island. In addition to Palma, filming will take place in the Tramuntana, for example a car chase including a car accident around the Cúber reservoir. Towards the end of the month, the filming team follows suit Soller. Before that, recordings were made in Berlin. Two episodes of the eight-part series are set on Mallorca. Another one is shot here, but is said to be located in Chile.
Jella Haase, known from the “Fack ju Göhte” series, plays a GDR spy who comes out of prison after the fall of the Berlin Wall. She recognizes an intrigue against herself and embarks on a worldwide campaign of revenge against her tormentors.
Adam Sandler however, it is said to have made sure that “Hustle” is filmed in Mallorca. In 2010 the 54-year-old presented his comedy “Grownups” on the island. He is said to have liked Mallorca so much that he persuaded Netflix to shoot here. The actor has been working for the streaming provider since 2015. The collaboration seems to change him, as Sandler is now increasingly discovering his serious side instead of silly comedies. Already in “The Black Diamond” (2019) he played a competitive jeweler.
In „Hustle“ Sandler embodies the fictional NBA talent scout Stanley Beren, who is going through a crisis and is fired. The scout takes a break and flies to Mallorca. There he happened to meet the young talent Bo Cruz, who dated NBA-Profi Juancho Hernangómez (Minnesota Timberwolves) is embodied. Both now want to establish themselves together in the NBA.
Shooting will start on Thursday (August 12th) at the airport, in the districts of Nou Llevant and Es Rafal and in the sports hall of Son Moix. Sandler and Hernangómez have previously filmed several scenes in Philadelphia. The cast also includes Queen Latifah, Robert Duvall and Ben Foster.

The steadily growing popularity of streaming services ensures more shoots worldwide, says Pedro Barbadillo, Head of the Mallorca Film Commission. “The demand has tripled. In some countries there are waiting times for years. Since shooting in Mallorca is mostly in the open air, that’s less of a problem. Here the staff is rather scarce. A third big shoot on the island could be difficult. ”
with Alvaro Death is meanwhile also one of the biggest Spanish Netflix stars on vacation on the island. The actor is the professor in the hit series “House of Money”. The fifth season starts on September 3rd on Netflix.
