National Stadium Sports Park: the largest in South America

This was highlighted this Tuesday in T13 Tarde by the Minister of Sports, Cecilia Pérez.

In the framework of a new meeting of the advisory council for the economic reactivation developed this Tuesday in the National Stadium, the Minister of Sports, Cecilia Pérez, presented the status of the remodeling works to the main campus of the country for the next Panamerican Games and Parapan American Games of Santiago 2023.

This project is part of “Plan Step by Step Chile recovers”, presented by the Government in 2020, and which includes a public investment plan for the period 2020-2022 for a total of US $ 34 billion, increasing the original program by US $ 4,500 million, with the intention of creating more than 250 thousand jobs.

“We have a historical investment in sports infrastructure this year, of almost 50 billion pesos in different venues, in different regions. But here is the heart, the heart that will build the largest sports park in South America“Minister Pérez told T13 Tarde.

In the meeting, the ministers of Public Works, Alfredo Moreno; Economy, Lucas Palacios; of Work and Social Security, Patricio melero; of Housing and Urbanism, Felipe Ward; of Transport and Telecommunications, Gloria Hutt, and Environment, Carolina Schmidt; in addition to the president of the COCH, Miguel Angel Mujica, the director of Copachi, Sebastian Villavicencio, and a group of athletes from Team Chile and Team Para Chile.

National Stadium Sports Park

The National Stadium Sports Park involves the execution of 14 projects that translate into almost 10,000 new jobs between 2020 and 2023, thanks to an investment of $ 154 million, which constitutes the main sports infrastructure legacy of the government of President Sebastián Piñera.

The remodeling project of the 64 hectares of the enclosure consider the remodeling of green areas for recreational sports, with jogging circuits, and bicycle lanes. Along with this are added new buildings and the improvement of some already existing for high performance sports.

The new venues for high-performance sports that are currently in full swing and according to the established deadlines are the following:

  • Field Hockey Training and Competition Center: Project that is under construction with 33% progress, and is expected to be delivered in the last quarter of 2021. The work includes 2 official courts, dressing rooms, weight and technical rooms, and sports and medical equipment. This will be a Pan-American sports space that will give way to the first public courts for this sport.
  • Contact Sports Training and Competition Center: Construction began during the month of June 2021 and delivery is expected in the last quarter of 2022. The following sports will be housed in this enclosure; judo, karate, wrestling and taekwondo. Within its 8,000 m2 built, there are 3 fighting mats, 3 judo mats, 4 taekwondo mats and 4 karate mats.
  • Paralympic Training and Competition Center: Its construction began during the month of June 2021 and its delivery is expected for the last quarter of 2022. Its 6,600 m2 were designed in an innovative and unique way in Chile, allowing the development of 10 Paralympic sports.

The new enclosures that are in the design stage and construction is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2022 are the following:

  • Center for Training and Competences of Collective Sports: (Volleyball, handball, basketball).
  • Esplanade of Urban Sports: (Skate, bmx, 3×3 basketball, climbing).

The plan also includes the improvement of existing sports venues, which are in the full design stage and construction is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2022, among which we can mention; Water Sports Training and Competencies Center, Athletics Training and Competencies Center, next to Tennis and Racket Sports Training and Competition Center.

The total budget allocated by the Government of Chile for the organization of the Pan American and Parapan American Games in Santiago 2023 is $ 507 million, considering the operation and the Infrastructure plan.

The total budget of the Infrastructure Plan for Santiago 2023 is ThCh $ 133,858,000, where Approximately ThCh $ 100,000,000 are concentrated in the National Stadium alone.
