Nagelsmann wants to do everything
Goretzka employs hopeful FC Bayern
For FC Bayern, the preparation with the new coach Julian Nagelsmann is still very poor. There is also a lot to do off the pitch: Leon Goretzka’s contract is expiring and the club would like to keep him. Nagelsmann now promises full commitment.
In his role as coach, Julian Nagelsmann wants to do everything to ensure that national soccer player Leon Goretzka stays with FC Bayern Munich beyond the beginning of the season. “My part is the sporty one,” said Nagelsmann after the 3-0 defeat of the German record champions’ test match against SSC Napoli, in which the 26-year-old Goretzka played again for 45 minutes after participating in the European Championship and on vacation.
Goretzka’s contract in Munich expires in summer 2022. The Bayern bosses want to extend with the former Schalke and avert a transfer-free club change of the service provider. Top international clubs are very interested in signing up.
Club president Herbert Hainer recently reported on “good and constructive” talks with Goretzka and also with national team colleague Joshua Kimmich, whose contract expires in June 2023. The chairman of the board, Oliver Kahn, had recently spoken of positive discussions with Goretzka, but also admitted: “Top players want to be paid accordingly.”
This summer Bayern defender David Alaba lost to Real Madrid on a free transfer because they did not want to meet the Austrian international’s financial demands. Goretzka had brought Bayern in 2018 free of charge from FC Schalke.
For Nagelsmann, Goretzka is currently “one of the most dangerous midfielders in Europe”. The 34-year-old wants to work with the professional in Munich beyond 2022 and convince him to stay. “I hope that he hooks up with the sporting things,” said the new Bayern coach at the weekend. As a trainer, however, he is not involved in the specific contract talks.
