Cheongsong Girls’ Middle and High School, located quietly at the foot of Mt. Bangang, which embraces Cheongsong-eup, Cheongsong-gun, is known as a prestigious badminton school in the country.

Cheongsong Girls’ Middle and High School was selected as a designated school for teaching skills by the Gyeongbuk Provincial Office of Education in July 2000.

It took the sweat and effort of physical education teacher Im Tae-cheon (55), badminton coach, until this school became a prestigious badminton school.

Cheongsong Girls’ Middle School founded the badminton club in 1983, but failed to secure a professional coach, so excellent badminton players who graduated from Cheongsong Elementary School used to study abroad at a middle school in the Gimcheon area.

The situation began to slowly change when teacher Lim Tae-cheon, who majored in physical education, was appointed to Cheongsong Girls’ High School in 2002.

The badminton club, under the guidance of Teacher Lim, has achieved considerable achievements, winning over 120 prizes so far.

He also achieved remarkable results in international competitions.

Starting with 3rd in doubles at the 2012 World Junior Badminton Championships, 1st in doubles at the 2017 Asian Junior Badminton Championships and the World Junior Badminton Championships in doubles, and 1st in doubles at the 2018 Vietnam Challenge International Badminton Championships. .

The results of domestic competitions are also splendid.

After placing 2nd in the girls’ high school team event at the 56th National Summer Sports Festival in 2013, she won the first place in the 2016 national spring competition, and 2nd place in the girls’ high school team event at the 97th National Sports Festival.

In particular, Ha-na Baek (member of MG Saemaul Geumgo, 9th in the world ranking) and Se-yeon Lee, who are currently active in the national badminton team, are promising prospects nurtured by Manager Lim.

In the meantime, the disciples that Teacher Lim has nurtured have been prominent in national unemployment teams. In addition, he produced 28 national team members (4 people) and junior national team members.

Teacher Lim recalled that time, saying, “There were many trials and tribulations until our school became a prestigious badminton school.”

He said, “Even if I was scouting players in elementary school, I had no place to live, so I lived with my husband and wife at home for 10 years. Since there are usually 4 or 5 players living together, the sweet dream of a newlywed life was just a picture cake,” he laughed.

“I’m always sorry to my wife and I’m always grateful,” he said.

However, he said that the poor sports infrastructure in the region also had difficulties in the development of the badminton club.

An opportunity came to him, who was sorry for such a situation,

In 2009, while participating in the Korea-China-Japan Comprehensive Championships in China as the Korean national team coach, I persistently asked Kim Hoon (currently secretary of the Audit Office of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism), who was at the time a member of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, to support the government with KRW 3.2 billion in 2013. hit the jackpot

After that, the Cheongsong National Sports Center was built for 8.6 billion won in 2016, including military expenses.

Thanks to his passionate efforts, various competitions, including the national badminton tournament, are held here.

He is currently serving as the vice president of the Cheongsong County Athletic Association, the senior vice president of the Korea Middle and High School Badminton Federation, and the leader of the Korea Badminton Association.

Teacher Lim Tae-cheon said, “Sports will become an independent industry. The economic effect derived from sports is also enormous.” “In the small rural town of Cheongsong, the sports economy is contributing to the revitalization of the local commercial area. In the future, we will do our best so that Cheongsong Girls’ Middle and High School can maintain its status as a high-class badminton school.”
