Marcus Ingvartsen is drawn to competitor Mainz

1. FC Union Berlin sign Kevin Möhwald from Werder Bremen and lose Marcus Ingvartsen in return. The Danes are drawn to league competitor 1. FSV Mainz 05. As the Rheinhessen announced on Monday evening, the player will be on loan until the end of the season. Afterwards there is the possibility of a purchase.

“Marcus has consistently demonstrated his quality in the Bundesliga over the past few years – albeit in a different position than we have in mind for him: we will use him as a striker in Mainz. With Marcus we are getting a player in the best football age who is keen on our project, has a lot of football quality and is also a great guy, ”said Mainz head coach Bo Svensson on the club’s side.

While Mainz would like to use the 25-year-old in the attack, he most recently played behind the front at Union Berlin, on a ten or an eight. Ingvartsen was also used on the outside lanes in Berlin. But he doesn’t have to reorient himself in a big way. For most of his career he was at the front of the box. In 64 Superligaen games (for FC Nordsjaelland) and 60 Bundesliga games, he scored a total of 29 goals. In addition, he contributed 16 templates.

“I had really good discussions with Mainz 05 – I like the game idea of the Mainz team and coach Bo Svensson, and the position in which Mainz 05 wants to use me suits me. I’m a trained striker, and that’s the role I feel most comfortable with. Now I’m looking forward to my new job and to using my strengths at the top in a profitable way for the team, ”said Ingvartsen about his move within the Bundesliga.
