In a very even and too dramatic final, the Los Chamos team, made up of Venezuelan migrants, defeated Vaqueros de Cartagena 85-80 and was crowned champion of the Friendship Basketball Cup, in a match played on the Los Angeles neighborhood court.
Undoubtedly, it was a great sports festival that took place on that stage, which was packed with an audience that loved the sport of the basket.
During the four quarters the actions were pairs of part and part, only that in the end the pressure of the public made a dent in the Vaqueros players, who did not have enough tranquility to specify the baskets that their hands had, while Los Chamos were more effective in the so-called ‘thin’.
Point guard Merkel Gómez, who scored 14 points, was the key piece in the Los Chamos team in terms of offense due to her leadership in scoring and assisting her teammates. He was chosen as the Most Valuable Player by the organization, led by Jorge Díaz.
The Chamos’ top scorers were Luis Díaz and Charly Gómez with 21 and 20 points, respectively.
For the Cowboys the best scorer was Keiner Paz with 22 points.
The top scorer of the tournament was David Fajardo of La Tribu with 285 points, followed by Sebastián Aponte of Black Power with 257 and Daniel Vizcaíno of Bucaneros A with 254.
The best free throw collector was Deibis Márquez de Los Chamos with 49 free throws, escorted by Sebastián Aponte with 47. and David Fajardo of La Tribu with 44.
The best tripler was Keyner Paz de Vaqueros with 35 triples, followed by Deibis Márquez de Los Chamos with 33 and Andrés Toro de Wakanda with 30.
In three weeks, the Friendship Basketball Tournament will start its third edition. There are already 12 teams registered.
