An excellent participation was met by the teams from the Comarca Lagunera in the renowned Masters Basketball Tournament, held last weekend in the city of Monterrey, Nuevo León, where the teams from La Laguna obtained a championship and a runner-up.
The Algodoneros de Torreón obtained the title of the 40-year-old and older category, demonstrating the great sporting level with which they play in the region and the passion that the Laguneros have for Sport Ráfaga.
After a perfect group stage, the Algodoneros advanced to the semifinals and had the most exciting and close match, to beat the Monterrey Gators in overtime by a score of 78 to 72, which placed them in the grand final, the which they won comfortably by 61 to 39 over the Toros de Nogales, on the court of the Center for University Studies (CEU). The members of the Torreón Cotton team are: Roberto Ruiz, Jesús Valero, Antonio Ramírez, Joel Esqueda, César Vega, Víctor “Mudo” Méndez, Bernardo Ríos and Edgardo “Cano” Cepeda.
For its part, the San Monday team managed to reach the grand final in the 50 and over category, although they fell in the title match against the representative of Saltillo.
