La Jornada – Mexicans debut in Tokyo 2020 Paralympic table tennis

Mexico City. Mexicans María Edith Sigala López, Víctor Eduardo Reyes Turcio and Claudia Pérez Villalba debuted in the table tennis group stage of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

In the Metropolitan Gymnasium, the three-time Paralympic selected Edith Sigala was measured against the Croatian Andela Muzinic, in a game corresponding to group E, TT3 classification, in which the victory was for the European by a final score of 3-0 (1-11 , 7-11 and 2-11).

Later, the Mexican starred in one of the best games of the day, because in her second appearance, she beat the Argentinean Verónica Soledad Blanco 3-1 (11-5, 9-11, 11-6 and 11-9). with which it registered the first triumph of the day for the country.

For his part, the Parapan American champion in Lima 2019, Víctor Eduardo Reyes Turcio fell to the South Korean Cheol Jin Park, number three in the world ranking, with a score of 3-0 (4-11, 11-13 and 9-11) in the first match of group C, class TT2.

In the second session, the Mexican Claudia Pérez Villalba entered the scene, who, at 50, fulfilled the dream of participating in the Paralympic Games although she lost to Kelly Van Zon, representative of the Netherlands, with a score of 3-0 ( 6-11, 8-11 and 5-11) in a duel corresponding to group A, category TT7.

The competitions for the Mexicans will continue at dawn this Thursday, when Víctor Eduardo Reyes Turcio returns to the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium, to face the Serbian Goran Perlic, at 02:00 hours, Central Mexico time; while, Edith Sigala, will face the Italian Michela Brunelli, game scheduled at 06:40 hours.
