Keiji Suzuki va succé der à Kosei Inoue

It was an open secret. In the pipes for several months, the information is now official: Keiji Suzuki will replace Kosei Inoue as kantoku (head coach) of the Japanese men’s team. A succession expected for several reasons: first, because the Sydney Olympic champion could not serve a third term. The rules of the Japanese federation are indeed clear: two terms maximum. Then, because it is fashionable for the Japanese boys’ kantoku to be Olympic champion. This is the case with Suzuki, a magnificent winner in Athens in + 100kg. Finally, because the policy of the Japanese federation is that of “change in continuity”. Namely that the kantoku is chosen from the outgoing staff. This was the case for Kosei Inoue, heavyweight manager under Shinichi Shinohara during the 2008-2012 Olympiad.
Same function for Keiji Suzuki for several years, and also coach of the men’s team at his university, Kokushikan.
A heavy legacy to take on as Inoue’s success in this role has been extraordinary, with the seven medals obtained in Rio and even more with the five titles of Takato, Abe, Ono, Nagase and Wolf last week in Tokyo.
